Residents in Cayman Brac will have a chance to learn about changes to the business licensing process this week.
Department of Commerce and Investment (DCI) staff will be at the following locations on Thursday, 22 October, to talk about the new Trade and Business Licensing Law (TBL):
There also will be a public meeting at the Aston Rutty Centre from 7pm to 9pm. Giveaways and hand-outs related to the new law will be available throughout the day.
DCI Director Ryan Rajkumarsingh said the goal is to educate the public.
‘The law aims to make the overall business licensing system more efficient on all three islands’, he said. ‘Because businesses in Cayman Brac and Little Cayman will be affected by the changes set out in the law, it is imperative that we reach out to them’.
Mr Rajkumarsingh said the new TBL is expected to commence in the coming weeks. The law improves the governance structure and processes of the Trade and Business Licensing Board, reduces TBL approval times, and clarifies business licensing categories.
‘It also creates an appeals tribunal, improves DCI’s enforcement powers, and allows Cabinet to provide business incentives, such as the micro- and small-business incentives that have been extended until 30 June 2016’, he said.
